Married to Tom Shields

The years have passed quickly but they have been wonderful.

I graduated from Albertus Magnus College in 1969 with an A.B. in mathematics and economics. I also received two other degrees. In 1981 I graduated from the Stern School at New York University where I received an M.B.A. in finance and accounting. My life-long passion has been the history of religion. I eventually went to Harvard University where I received a Master of Arts degree in religion in 2005. I have always been fascinated about the establishment of Christianity. My thesis was entitled: "How Christianity Survived in First Century Palestine". My conclusion was that it didn't! To that end I studied 1,000 years of Jewish history. It was an amazing journey.

Tom Shields (Harvard College A.B. 1969 and Harvard Business School M.B.A. 1973) and I married in 1973 and moved to New York City where we both spent time working for Wall Street firms. Since 1991, Tom and I have owned a middle-market investment bank in the Boston area. Shields & Company, Inc, and its broker/dealer affiliate Shields Securities, Inc. offer corporate finance services in: mergers and acquisitions, valuations and fairness opinions, and financial advisory and fiduciary assignments.

I have been a Director and Treasurer of Elizabeth Seton Academy in Boston, which is an inner-city high school for young women. I am a past president of the Association for Corporate Growth, which is a 1,000-person-trade-association for dealmakers in the Boston area. I sit on the Boards of Hyde Park Savings Bank in Hyde Park, MA and Imperial Distributors, Inc., which is a large Worcester, MA-based distribution company.

Tom and I have two terrific adult children:

T. Matthew Shields (Harvard College – A.B., 2001 and UCC Medical School – M.D., 2008) is a pediatric resident at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. Matt will pursue a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at the Golasino Children's Hospital at the University of Rochester in 2011.

Elizabeth A. Shields (Harvard College A.B., 2004 and Tuck Business School at Dartmouth College, M.B.A., 2010) works for Samsung in Seoul, Korea where she is involved in global strategy.

Our lives revolve around work, Wellesley, and Cape Cod where we spend three seasons a year. We travel and have a wide circle of wonderful friends. Life has been very good to us. We are very blessed.

My family left Terryville thirty years ago. My Dad passed away in 2001. My Mom divides her time between Cape Cod and Florida. I have not been back to Terryville in many years. I am looking forward to connecting with old friends.
